Deputy involved in fatal shooting
YCSO: Man armed with knife charged officer
A deputy from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday evening shot and killed a California man who allegedly charged at him wielding a knife.
YCSO Lt. Samuel Pavlak said that at approximately 8:45 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a disorderly conduct per domestic violence in the 6200 block of SouthAvenue 8½E.
Upon arrival, a deputy was immediately approached by an individual now identified as 63-yearold Chris Cadotte, of Orange County, Calif.,who YCSO said was armed with a knife.
Cadotte was told to drop the knife, but he refused and reportedly charged toward the deputy.
As he was charging the deputy, Cardotte allegedly disregarded several other commands to drop the knife, and was ultimately shot by the deputy. An ambulance was requested immediately afterwards.
Deputies on scene rendered first-aid to Cadotte until firefighters from Rural/Metro arrived.
Cadotte was later transported by Rural/Metro ambulance to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
“There was another individual involved in the incident, but that person was unharmed.” Pavlak said.
Pavlak added that the Yuma Police Department is assisting in the investigation into the incident, saying it is standard procedure when a deputy has been involved in a shooting.
