Yuma Sun

Pen-pricks

• New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady began negotiating for a new contract this week with Coach Bill Belichek after deciding to continue playing in the NFL at age 42. Brady might as well, we can all do the arithmetic. He’s 35 years too young to run for president.

• Mike Bloomberg wound up shelling out $500 million for the biggest dud of a campaign in U.S. history. He could’ve saved himself a lot of time and paid me the $500 million to tell him that he will never be president. And if you think Mike acts like a jerk wait till you see me with $500 million.

Although it was an uplifting article to read, and really great to see interest displayed by students and staff, it was lacking some details. It didn’t show any type of irrigation for these trees, or who was going to be responsible for other maintenance required for them in the coming years.

The reason I bring this up is because of the plan Yuma has pushed to plant more trees is not well thought out. We bought a home here 5 years ago. It was a nice neighborhood with trees and other plants in the common areas. As time went on though, some of those plants and trees started to die, due to faulty irrigation and monitoring.

The city’s answer was to remove most of them, and in a lot of cases, not capping off the irrigation leads to them, leaving water to be wasted on an empty hole. These trees and plants were never replaced. In other cases irrigation lines were broken, leaving water flowing onto sidewalks and into streets that took a long time to get fixed, no matter how many phone calls were made.

The gist of this letter is, not to proceed with something like this just for good press, unless there is a plan and money to maintain it.

And then there were two (the others are irrelevant). Elizabeth Warren has dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination for president. She hasn’t (as this is being written) said who she will support. If she opts for Biden it may very well propel him into the best position to win; if she chooses to support Sanders it could make for an interesting competition.

We all know who Biden is – a part of the “establishment” ruled by the deep state and the globalists. What could be called troublesome is the number of people who support Sanders, thinking the government should take care of them (at the expense of working Americans) and are willing to destroy this country (socialism) to make that happen. It’s difficult to have much respect for them. *** At a time when ALL those in government should be working together with health agencies to deal with the threat of the coronavirus (if indeed it is as serious as the media seems to think it is), some Democrats (not all) are trying to make political points off the situation. That’s disgusting. President Trump has reacted quickly and appropriately. Were his actions “perfect”? Who knows – he was/is dealing with a lot of unknowns and things seem to change daily, but some of what Chuck Schumer has said on the floor of the Senate – fear mongering in an attempt to degrade Trump – was inaccurate and shameful. *** Speaking of Schumer, he has made another serious blunder. The kind of remarks he made re the Supreme Court were totally out of line. He’s trying to “walk back” those remarks, saying he didn’t mean it the way it sounded, but … He’s a political hack – even Democrats know that – and it’s often tough to believe what he says. Some Democrats are saying that he should be censured in some sort of way. We shall see.
