Divers recover body of a missing swimmer from Lake

Havasu

LAKE HAVASU CITY — The body of a Lake Havasu City man who went missing while swimming near Thompson Bay was recovered Monday, authoritie­s said.

Mohave County Sheriff’s officials said divers located the body of 67-year-old Gary Elliott Welmer around 10:30 a.m. Monday about 21 feet under the water’s surface.

Authoritie­s responded to the area about 4 p.m. Sunday after receiving calls about a missing swimmer.

Sheriff’s crews and the Lake Havasu City police dive team performed an underwater search, but were unable to find the man and the search resumed Monday morning.

Authoritie­s said the incident is under investigat­ion.

Motorcycle and truck collision kills 2 people in Phx.

PHOENIX — A man and woman died after a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck in Phoenix, authoritie­s said.

The accident around 2 p.m. Sunday killed 30-yearold Jessie Andrade and 34-year-old Aracely ArvizuHern­andez, police said.

Andrade was operating a motorcycle with ArvizuHern­andez as his passenger. As Andrade switched to the middle lane while approachin­g an intersecti­on on Indian School Road, his motorcycle collided with the truck, police said.

Andrade and Arvizu-Hernandez were transporte­d to a hospital where they died from their injuries.

The 25-year-old driver of the truck was evaluated and was not found to be impaired. He and the 34-yearold male passenger of the truck were not injured, police said.
