“THE SINNER: THE COMPLETE SERIES”
Executive-produced by Jessica Biel, this heavily psychological USA Network drama had a four-season life that featured Bill Pullman as sleuth Harry Ambrose throughout its run. Biel also starred in the first season, playing a woman who very uncharacteristically stabbed a man to death, prompting Ambrose’s probe. The second round involves a youngster with a lethal penchant for poisoning, while year three concerns a fatal car accident that turns out to have much more involved. The concluding season draws Ambrose out of retirement to investigate a New England family newly marked by tragedy. Jessica Hecht, Carrie Coon, actor-playwright
Tracy Letts, Matt Bomer, Chris Messina and
Frances Fisher are among additional cast members. (Not rated: AS, P, V) (Also ››› on Blu-ray)
“UMMA”
If there sometimes seems to be a touch of the otherworldly to the performances
of Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve,” “Grey’s Anatomy”), that’s particularly the case with this tale, casting her as a woman whose quiet life with her daughter (Fivel Stewart) on a farm is disrupted by an unexpected arrival. It contains the remains of her mother from Korea, which the woman fears will have too overpowering an effect on her own life. (“Umma” is the Korean word for “mother.”) Dermot Mulroney and Odeya Rush also star in the drama, which includes Sam Raimi among its producers.

“MEASURE OF REVENGE”
Oscar winner Melissa Leo (“The Fighter”) has the sort of role that suits her extremely well in this melodrama. She plays a theater star who refuses to believe her son (Jake Weary) died of an accidental overdose, so she sets out to learn and confirm the truth behind the tragedy. As she carries out her quest, with partial help from her late offspring’s dealer (Bella Thorne), she gets imagined support and encouragement from some of the legendary characters she has played on the stage. Roma Maffia also is
featured. (Not rated: AS, P, V)
