Suns’ win over Bulls was worth watching

PHOENIX “Nobody wants to watch the Phoenix Suns,” Scottie Pippen was saying the other day.

Maybe not a week or two ago. But they will be now.

The Suns (2124) put together their best game of a mostly dreary season Tuesday night, roaring from behind to beat the visiting Chicago Bulls (415), by far the NBA’S best team this season, 10696, at America West Arena. In looking much like the team’s that’s been the winningest in the NBA the past three seasons, the Suns answered the question: “How do you beat the Chicago Bulls?” in ways both convention­al and surprising.

You watch as Michael Jordan, despite an otherwise heroic fourth quarter, misses three straight free throws down the stretch. e Then, with the score 9696, your backup point guard, buried on the bench the whole game until Kevin Johnson once again comes up lame, fakes past Steve Kerr, draws a foul and hits both free throws. ethen, Perry pulls up at the top of the circle and buries a 21footer to give the Sims a 10096 lead. ethen comes the really big play:

Charles Barkley, who seems to have taken a trip back in time lately, recognized a pass coming from Toni Kukoc to Dennis Rodman. He stepped in front, grabbed it and headed down the floor for a slam.

When the play was over, so was the game. Barkley celebrated by leaping up and down pumping his arms the whole time.

“Most teams are scared of the Bulls," Barkley said later. “That’s one of the reasons they’re so successful.”
