Sharron Rosiska is director of nursing at Emerald Springs Senior Living. She shares a little about herself in this edition of Health Connections.

How long have you been practicing health care in Yuma, and did you practice anywhere before Yuma?

My husband and I moved to Yuma in May 2022. Within no time, I was hired at Emerald Springs Senior Living as Director of Nursing. Before Yuma, we lived in Oklahoma, just outside of Tulsa, where I received all my nursing education and experience.

What is the philosophy that guides you in serving patients or clients?

When I started my nursing career, I was 43 years old. I started out as a certified nurse aide. At 44 years old, I became a medication administration technician. At 45 years old, I became a Licensed Practical Nurse. At age 55, I went back to college to take my pre-requisites and basics for the RN program. I graduated at 58 as the oldest graduating registered nurse in the whole graduating class. I graduated Phi Theta Kappa.

To answer your question, I began my nursing career later in life, making me as old as those for whom I give care. I want to make a difference in the lives of my residents as well as my staff. I want them to know they can come to me and I will be there for them.

What is something that everyone can do on their own to improve their health?

Get up and move! There is a saying we, in nursing, use often: If you don’t use it, you will lose it! The less you get up and move around, the less you will be able to get up and move around. Stay as active as possible. It makes you healthier, and keeps you regular!

What is your favorite place to be?

Right here in our beautiful desert. For years, when we lived in Oklahoma, I would beg my husband to take me home. I’m finally home and so very happy to be here!

Tell readers something about yourself no one would have guessed?

I once worked for a famous pottery by the name of Frankoma Pottery. I hand painted pottery as well as glazed the ware. My signed work is all over the world.

What is your passion or are your passions?

My greatest passion is to be the Director of Nursing for whom I always wanted to work. I love to educate my staff to help them become better at what they do.

Away from work, I love spending time with family and making memories.

What are your hobbies?

I like spending Saturdays with my husband going out and about to different events, with no technology.

What are your favorite foods?

My favorite foods are fruits and vegetables, and coffee! f
