Arizona to transition athletic director Dave Heeke out in early February

Tucson – arizona athletic director dave Heeke is out after seven years amid financial difficulti­es in the leadup to the school’s move to the Big 12 Conference.

The school announced on Monday a “transition in the leadership” in the department and Heeke will be out on Feb. 2. Former Wildcats softball coach Mike Candrea will serve as interim ad.

“I want to thank dave for his outstandin­g efforts in leading our athletics program through a period of significan­t change,” university of arizona President robert C. robbins said in a statement. “He helped get our men’s and women’s basketball programs and our football program on a strong trajectory, oversaw the success of several of our sports teams and greatly enhanced the student-athlete experience. dave always displayed the highest integrity, and I am appreciati­ve of his partnershi­p and dedication.”

Nick Dunlap withdraws from Torrey Pines after becoming 1st amateur in 33 years to win on PGA Tour

san DIEGO – alabama sophomore nick dunlap has withdrawn from the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines to contemplat­e his options as the first amateur in 33 years to win on the PGA Tour.

dunlap, the reigning u.s. amateur champion, won The american express on sunday by making a 6-foot par putt on the final hole for a one-shot victory.

The victory gives him a PGA Tour card through 2026 whenever he decides to turn pro and join the tour. He would be eligible for seven $20 million signature events this year if he turns pro, along with three majors (and still a chance to play the British Open).
