YCSO: Be wary of inmate commissary deposit websites

- BY THE YUMA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) would like to inform the public of imposters and fraud schemes involving “inmate commissary deposit” websites, which alludes to allowing people to deposit funds into an inmate’s commissary account.

The Yuma County Detention Center utilizes “Access Corrections” website services for inmates’ family and friends to have an easy, immediate way to provide spending money.

When attempting to find this website, YCSO recommends typing the complete URL into the web browser – do NOT Google “access corrections.” When googled, there are sponsored ads that show up above the correct website with misleading “Access Corrections” titles. You can spot these by verifying the actual URL address.

YCSO has received reports from the public depositing to other sites, such as Securtel. On the Securtel website, it says it services the Yuma County Adult Detention Center, which is FALSE. These websites collect credit card information up front and charges a customer immediately upon registration without actually providing any service or verifying a prisoner is in custody. Additionally, their terms of service state there is a nonrefundable processing fee, which means even if a refund is requested, the company will keep the processing fee.

Ways to safely deposit spending money to Yuma County Detention Center inmates:

1. Type the complete URL into the web browser www. accesscorrections.com and do not click on any sponsored ads.

2. Visit www.yumacountysheriff.org to access reliable methods of deposit, which include via mail, phone, apps, etc.

3. In-person deposit at the Detention Center Front Lobby Kiosk: The kiosk is available for deposits Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM–5:00 PM.

The Yuma County Detention Center is a maximum-security facility designed to receive, process and house people who are arrested, awaiting trial and people sentenced to the custody of the Sheriff. If you have fallen victim to scams or fraud, we encourage you to contact a law enforcement agency in your area to report the crime.
