SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, Son. – The case of the fatal fire at Beer House bar last year remains open in the state prosecutor’s office, but Mayor Santos González Yescas ruled out any arrest warrants against city officials.

Regarding the posts on social media about alleged arrest warrants against Civil Protection Director Ricardo Trigo Ramírez and Urban Development’s Jorge René Arce Flores, the mayor emphasized that this is false information.

On July 22, 2023, an individual set fire to Beer House bar, located on Callejón Carlos G. Calles and Calle 6, a fire that resulted in the death of 13 people.

A post circulated on social media the previous week indicated that the State Attorney General’s Office of Sonora, the agency investigating the Beer House case, had attempted to execute the alleged arrest warrants.

González Yescas stated that he would seek a meeting with the state prosecutor, Gustavo Salas, to push for the clarification of the case.

“The Beer House case is a legal matter, and I am a person who respects institutions, but it has to come to an end,” said the mayor on Wednesday at a press conference.

“We feel a lot of anger for what happened at Beer House; we are not to blame that a lunatic, a deranged person, caused an intentional fire,” added the mayor.

One of the public criticisms toward the city government regarding the case is the lack of an updated operating license for the nowclosed bar.

On Jan. 24, after six months had passed since the fire at Beer House, Gonzales Yescas addressed the issue with the media, stating that all establishments have licenses, but in the case of that bar, it was not updated.

“Even when Beer House was operating, it’s just that its operating license payment hadn’t been updated, which means Beer House was operating normally,” he explained.

The individual accused of starting the fire at Beer House, José Luis “N”, a local resident, is currently detained but not yet sentenced.

Weeks after the incident, the state prosecutor’s office revealed that city officials could be interviewed in the case, but it is unknown if they were questioned as part of the investigation.

On Wednesday, González Yescas reiterated that Trigo Ramírez and Arce Flores have no issues related to the Beer House case.
