CITY PROJECTS

North End pavement replacemen­t project

A contractor working for the City will remove and replace street pavement, water lines, and ada-standard sidewalk ramps on various streets in northern Yuma, roughly between avenue a and 4th avenue. reconstruc­tion work will take place on east-west roadways Colorado Street and 2nd Street, and on north-south roadways including 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th avenues. Local streets will be closed to through traffic, but access will be maintained for residents who live in the closed section. detours will be available via 1st Street and 3rd Street.

Pavement work is expected to take place beginning Feb. 21 north of 1st Street on 6th, 8th and 10th avenues. The overall project is expected to conclude in summer 2024.

Avenue 5E, 37th Street to 40th Street

A contractor working for the City is installing water and sewer lines on avenue 5e between 37th Street and 40th Street, plus new fire hydrants and new service connection­s, followed by pavement replacemen­t. avenue 5e will be closed to through traffic between 32nd Street and 40th Street, and to all traffic between 37th Street and 40th Street. detour using avenue 4e or avenue 6e. This project is expected to be complete in early spring.

45th Avenue, 24th Street to 28th Street

A contractor working for the City will construct a multi-use path along 45th avenue between 24th Street and 28th Street. most work will occur off the roadway; however, one phase of the project will prompt a closure of 45th avenue between 24th Street and 26th Street. Project is expected to run through mid-april.

32nd Street and Avenue C

Feb. 19-22, City crews will upgrade the traffic signals in the intersecti­on of 32nd Street and avenue C. Work will prompt lane restrictio­ns and turn restrictio­ns, and the traffic signals will not be in operation.

28th Drive, 31st Street to 29th Place

28th drive traffic is restricted to northbound only between 31st Street and 29th Place for emergency storm drain repair.

Motorists are advised to avoid wet paint and traffic cones in streets.

OTHER UTILITY PROJECTS AND ENCROACHME­NT PERMITS Avenue A, Parkview to 28th Street (Yuma County)

A contractor working for Yuma County is working on the Smucker Park flood control basin, which will at times affect avenue a between Parkview Loop and 28th Street. The sidewalk on the west side of avenue a is closed. motorists on avenue a should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the roadway on the north side of the park. Later phases of work will include lane restrictio­ns on avenue a and a closure at Westridge, anticipate­d for early 2024. message boards will be activated 72 hours prior to any such closure.

The southbound lane of avenue a has been shifted to the center turn lane at 28th Street due to storm damage. Work on the concrete box culvert there is expected to start in late February. motorists expecting to turn left on 28th Street from southbound avenue a are advised to detour using 24th Street and 8th avenue.

Fiber optic installati­ons (Allo)

Communicat­ions line installati­ons will take place in areas designated for utility easements within the City limits and surroundin­g vicinity in the following areas:

• arizona avenue, 16th Street to 24th Street

• 16th Street and 1st avenue

• avenue b north of 16th Street

• 1st avenue, 22nd Place to 27th Place

• 14th avenue and 15th Street

• area between avenue b and 15th avenue, from West main Canal to 8th Street

• area between 1st Street and Giss Parkway, 4th avenue to Gila Street

• area between 12th Street to 14th Street, Pageant avenue to 44th avenue

• 24th Street and James drive

• 30th Street and araby road

• 2100 block of avenue a

• Las Casitas Subdivisio­n

Avenue A, Palmcroft Drive (Century Link)

Century Link crews will access utility hole to replace fiber cable along avenue a and Palmcroft drive. Work is anticipate­d to be completed by mid-march.

16th Street, Arizona Avenue (Century Link)

Century Link will replace cable along 16th and arizona avenue, resulting in single lane closures. Work is expected to be complete by late February.

Avenue B, 1st Street through Augusta (SW Gas)

Through Feb. 28, gas line work will prompt a closure of the right southbound lane of avenue b from 1st Street through the intersecti­on with augusta drive.

14th Avenue A, Parkway Drive to Camino Real (Century Link)

Beginning Feb. 5, Century Link has a 90-day project to replace a section of defective telephone cable. Part of this project will require the closure of 14th avenue between Parkway drive and Camino real for an unknown number of days. Completion date is expected to be no later than april 5.

County 14th Street, Avenue 3E to Avenue 4E (Yuma County)

Beginning Feb. 7, Yuma County Public Works will have a road closure set up on County 14th between avenue 4e and 3e for road patching. Completion date is expected to be no later than Feb. 27.

24th Street, Avenue B (Spectrum)

Spectrum has a two-week project adding new cable lines, vault and conduit that will require a lane closure of southbound avenue b just south of 24th Street. This work should be complete by mid-march.

Avenue 8-1/2E, 34th Street to 40th Street (Gila Electronic­s)

Installati­on of new fiber optic cables will require a lane shift on southbound avenue 8-1/2e between 34th Street and 40th Street through late april.

Maiden Lane, 1st Street to 2nd Street (Yuma County)

Installati­on of a constructi­on crane will prompt the closure of maiden Lane between 1st Street and 2nd Street, Feb. 21-23.
