Carver Day 2024
G.W. carver Elementary kicks off carver day festivities with band and dance performances
G.W. Carver Elementary School students gathered to ring in the 2024 Carver Day festivities in February, and the Yuma High School community was right there to help make the event one to remember.
The YHS Band provided musical entertainment while the YHS Color Guard and Dance Team, accompanied by the Carver Dance Team, performed as well.
G.W. Carver Elementary School Principal Matt Buckley expressed his appreciation for the support.
“We’re so grateful to have the Yuma High School Criminals Band and Dancers with us today at Carver Elementary School. This is our second year of doing this with them, and we are just so grateful to have them show our students what they can aspire to and do in the future when they move onto high school. So, we’re just so thankful to have them be a part of our school and our special day,” he declared.
In a YUHSD press release, Nathan – a member of the YHS Band who performed at Carver Day – acknowledged, “The point of this fair is to engage with the students and show them what’s out there after elementary school.”
Similarly, YHS Dance Team member Abril reflectively noted that the experience was a full-circle moment.
“It was a pleasure to come and dance with the little kids because we were once in their shoes and looked up to other dancers. Now, knowing they look up to us is such a blessing,” she said. “It was really fun, and I’d love to do it again.”
In addition to these performances, Buckley also unveiled new artwork, which students and the Yuma Art Center contributed to. Students also delivered presentations on George Washington Carver and the school’s Carver Day tradition.
