Jehovah’s Witnesses launch invitation campaign
Yuma county residents invited to two events in march
During a special campaign in March, the 14 congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Yuma County are inviting the community to join them at a special public talk to be held the weekend of March 16-17 and an observance of the Lord’s Evening Meal on Sunday, March 24.
While the date of March 24 may pass imperceptibly for many, millions around the world will gather at sundown to commemorate the death of Jesus.
Considered the most important day of the year for Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Memorial is observed annually on Nisan 14 of the Jewish calendar in adherence to Jesus’ statement found at Luke 22:19: “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”
Though there are more than 8.6 million Jehovah’s Witnesses around the world, over 20 million people attended the event last year.
“Every year many ones all over the world join Jehovah’s Witnesses for the Memorial. We love having our neighbors with us remembering the death of Jesus Christ. It’s an excellent opportunity to show appreciation for what he did,” said Jonatan Fernandez, a resident of Yuma County and spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“It’s a dignified observance but also a very happy occasion,” he added.
The one-hour event will feature a talk highlighting the significance of Jesus’ death and what it means for all of mankind.
The special talk titled “The Resurrection–victory Over Death!” will be delivered at local Kingdom Halls on March 16 and 17. This 30-minute, Bible-based public discourse will focus on the scriptural hope of a resurrection of the dead in the near future.
Local resident Matthew Bates said: “My wife and I look forward to these two special occasions all year long. The special talk always provides us with practical advice and hope in the midst of the difficult situations we face in this world. The Memorial commemoration gives us the opportunity to reflect on what God has done for us and to show appreciation for his wonderful gift to mankind.”
