Amerischools educator receives award from county Superintendent’s Office
As part of the Yuma County Superintendent’s Office’s “Good Things in Education” program, Amerischools Academy Yuma North Campus kindergarten teacher Nanette Meyer was honored as the Teacher of the Month.
Meyer received the surprise on March 15, and her students were right there to cheer her on and celebrate her as she was awarded her certificate of appreciation, along with a $100 reward!
“It’s such a surprise. I’m so thankful,” Meyer – an Amerischools employee of 16 years – said about the honor.
As for how she plans to utilize her $100 award, Meyer declared, “I’m using it for them. We have an upcoming graduation, and I want to have chicken wings for the graduation party!”
Principal Linda Mccormack also commented on the development.
“I think it’s a really good honor, and I’m glad that they’re doing it for our teachers,” she said. “Mrs. Meyer deserves it. She is so dedicated to the kids and parents, and she always has them highly successful.”
Eliana Osborn, Yuma County program specialist for the Arizona Department of Education, also highlighted the importance of recognizing the efforts of teachers at charter schools.
“Amerischools is our first charter school that we’re nominating as our Teacher of the Month,” she told the Yuma Sun.
“We know that not every child goes to public school, which we support. So, we want to make sure that we’re including them in all of our activities and recognitions.”
Launched in late 2023, the Good Things in Education Program is an effort that’s centered on “celebrating the teachers and students in our community.”
