The Yuma Union High School District will host a job fair from 5:30 to 7 p.m. this evening, allowing people to learn more about all the various job openings that the district has to offer.

The event will take place in the YUHSD boardroom, located at 3150 S. Avenue A in Yuma. Representatives from each high school will be present – along with professionals across various departments, including transportation, special education, human resources, teaching, and more.

In a YUHSD press release, Executive Director of Human Resources Bobby Lambert noted that this is the third job fair that’s been held at the district office while detailing what it has to offer.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to share what’s great about working with Yuma Union High School District and to hopefully meet some of our future team members,” he said. “In the past, we’ve been fortunate enough to find candidates to fill positions in areas ranging from teaching to support staff at our job fair. This year we expect a great turnout, especially with the compensation increases approved by our governing board recently.”

During a special meeting held on Feb. 26, the governing board approved employee raises. Specifically, classified staff members saw their hourly pay rates increase by $3, while certified staff members saw 6% base salary increases.

YUHSD Associate Superintendent Dianne Cordery, who oversees to district’s finances, previously told the Yuma Sun that the move is part of an effort to help make YUHSD jobs “more competitive.”

“We’ve struggled to remain competitive over the past several years, specifically with our classified staff. So, we made a commitment this year that we were going to focus on our classified staff, which is why we came up with the $3 an hour raise, and we also increased our entry level by $1.50,” she shared. “That way, we can be more competitive to attract others who want to come work at our district.”
