A state agency worth following on social media
Arizona department of health Services sharing useful info regularly with great messaging
Readers, if you aren’t following the Arizona Department of Health Services on Facebook, you are missing out.
We are continually impressed by the information this agency provides – and in the way that they do it.
One recent Monday, for example, ADHS promoted meal planning, noting it can help people both save money and eat healthier – and then provided a link to delicious, easy to make recipes. It’s great news that people can use, and it’s delivered in a non-judgmental way, which we appreciate.
And it’s that non-judgmental delivery that really scores points with us. Whether ADHS is talking about the importance of vaccines, healthy food, or staying home when you are sick – the posts are written in a matter-of-fact, science-based form.
And, readers, this feed is packed with useful health tips.
“If your little one is experiencing a high fever above 102°F that doesn’t respond to medication, seek medical care. Visit us online for more information about how to treat a fever: https://1.azdhs. gov/3jv6fvm” – tips like this are especially useful, and they are plentiful on the agency’s facebook page.
Also appreciated is the fact that the topics span the gamut of health issues.
Interested in healthy eating? There are fun facts like this:
“REMINDER: Did you know that just 3.5 ounces of sweet potatoes provide 100% of the daily recommended amount of vitamin A? This flavorful vegetable is also a great source of vitamin C, potassium, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, & vitamin E. Explore more: azhealthzone.org”
But the feed also contains more serious information for a variety of age levels.
February, for example, was Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. ADHS shared a plethora of useful information for parents and teens alike.
Check out this post:
“1 in 10 high school students face dating violence. “If you’re in a similar relationship, know this: You are not alone.
“You are deserving of a healthy relationship. “February is #TDVAM. Learn more at loveisrespect.org”
This is a message that parents and teens alike need to hear, and can spark life-changing (and life-saving) conversations in the process.
Another one? “#DYK? Unhealthy relationships can come in many forms – not just physical. Find out if you or someone you love is in an unhealthy relationship, and what to do next: https://1.azdhs. gov/49vrnue
#Lovelikethat” – with a graphic sharing the five signs you are in a toxic relationship.
Readers, that’s information people need to hear at any age.
If you aren’t yet following the agency on Facebook, we recommend you check it out. And kudos to the social media team at ADHS – they are really doing a terrific job!
