City Road Report
A weekly summary of city projects or encroachment permits issued by the city of Yuma affecting busy streets.
North End pavement replacement project
A contractor working for the city will remove and replace street pavement, water lines, and ada-standard sidewalk ramps on various streets in northern Yuma, roughly between avenue a and 4th avenue. most of the major street reconstruction work is complete; however, work crews will continue to operate in isolated areas. The overall project is expected to conclude in summer 2024.
12th Street and Avenue C
In early april, the city will convert the intersection of 12th Street and avenue c into a four-way stop, following pavement preservation work in the area. motorists should watch for message boards and signs indicating the change.
Avenue 5E, 37th Street to 40th Street
A contractor working for the city is installing water and sewer lines on avenue 5E between 37th Street and 40th Street, plus new fire hydrants and new service connections, followed by pavement replacement. avenue 5E will be closed to through traffic between 32nd Street and 40th Street, and to all traffic between 37th Street and 40th Street. detour using avenue 4E or avenue 6E. This project is expected to be complete in early spring.
45th Avenue, 24th Street to 28th Street
A contractor working for the city will construct a multi-use path along 45th avenue between 24th Street and 28th Street. most work will occur off the roadway; however, one phase of the project will prompt a closure of 45th avenue between 24th Street and 26th Street. The project is expected to run through mid-april.
28th Drive, 31st Street to 29th Place
28th drive traffic is restricted to northbound only between 31st Street and 29th Place for emergency storm drain repair.
Spring pavement preservation
Spring surface treatments are expected to run march 21 through the end of april. Impacted neighborhood property owners will receive a door hanger that indicates the area where the roadway maintenance is taking place as well as the dates and times. OTHER UTILITY PROJECTS AND ENCROACHMENT PERMITS Avenue A, Parkview to 28th Street (Yuma County)
A contractor working for Yuma county is working on the Smucker Park flood control basin, which will at times affect avenue a between Parkview Loop and 28th Street. The sidewalk on the west side of avenue a is closed. motorists on avenue a should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the roadway on the north side of the park. Later phases of work will include lane restrictions on avenue a and a closure at Westridge, anticipated for early 2024. message boards will be activated 72 hours prior to any such closure.
The southbound lane of avenue a has been shifted to the center turn lane at 28th Street due to storm damage. Work on the concrete box culvert there is expected to start in late February. motorists expecting to turn left on 28th Street from southbound avenue a are advised to detour using 24th Street and 8th avenue.
Fiber optic installations (Allo)
Communications line installations will take place in areas designated for utility easements within the city limits and surrounding vicinity in the following areas:

Avenue A, Palmcroft Drive (Century Link)
Century Link crews will access utility hole to replace fiber cable along avenue a and Palmcroft drive. Work is anticipated to be completed by mid-march.
14th Avenue, Parkway Drive to Camino Real (Century Link)
Century Link has a 90-day project to replace a section of defective telephone cable. Part of this project will require the closure of 14th avenue between Parkway drive and camino real for an unknown number of days. completion date is expected to be no later than april 5.
County 14th Street, Avenue 3E (Spectrum)
Spectrum will work south of the intersection of county 14th Street and avenue 3E, with flagmen to control traffic. Work should complete in late march.
24th Street, Avenue B (Spectrum)
Spectrum has a two-week project adding new cable lines, vault and conduit that will require a lane closure of southbound avenue B just south of 24th Street. This work should be complete by mid-march.
Avenue 8-1/2E, 34th Street to 40th Street (Gila Electronics)
Installation of new fiber optic cables will require a lane shift on southbound avenue 8-1/2E between 34th Street and 40th Street through late april.
Maiden Lane, 1st Street to 2nd Street (Yuma County)
Installation of a construction crane will prompt the closure of maiden Lane between 1st Street and 2nd Street.
Avenue B, 15th Street (Century Link)
century Link has a 60-day project that will include a closure of the right southbound lane of avenue B approaching 15th Street. Work is expected to conclude by mid-may.
8th Street, Avenue B to 25th Avenue (SW Gas)
Through march 30, gas pipe placement will prompt a closure of the right eastbound lane of 8th Street between avenue B and 25th avenue.
24th Street, Pacific Avenue to Avenue 3E (SW Gas)
Gas line replacement work will include eastbound lane closures of 24th Street between Pacific avenue and avenue 3E. Work should complete in late april.
Araby Road, 32nd Street (Gila Electronics)
ADOT road maintenance and light pole installation will affect Interstate 8 traffic east of Yuma through march 14. crews will have either the eastbound or westbound lanes reduced to one lane each direction between mile markers 20 and 29, with reduced speed limit. drivers should plan extra time.
16th Street, 1st Avenue (Legacy)
Fire line installation is prompting lane reductions on eastbound 16th Street between 4th avenue and maple Street. This is night work, taking place 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work should be complete by march 15.
