William “Bill” Alvin Fry

July 24, 1934 - March 10, 2024

-

William “Bill” Alvin Fry died March 10, 2024. He was born July 24, 1934, to Mary Whittam Fry and Gideon Bill Fry in Detroit, Michigan. The family moved to Battle Ground, Washington, when he was 14 years old.

Bill enjoyed playing football and basketball at Battle Ground High School, but he truly loved baseball and excelled as a left-handed pitcher for the high school's baseball team.

Bill was drafted into the Army and served our country during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. After returning home, he worked in the beer business, delivering beer and servicing draft systems in restaurants, bars, taverns and convenience stores around the Clark County area. A proud Teamster, Bill retired from Stein Distributing after 30 years of driving delivery trucks, slinging kegs, and cleaning beer lines.

On March 14, 1970, Bill married Colleen Castrow and had three sons. Lawrence and Vernon (Kelly) were adopted in 1974, and Craig was born in 1976. Bill bowled, water skied, and golfed with family and friends as often as possible. He especially enjoyed swimming in the family pool with his boys and golfing with Craig. Colleen and Bill would often take their RV to the Coast and found new friends and adventures with each trip. They eventually took their RV to Yuma, Arizona, as snowbirds and ended up moving there full time in 1998. In Yuma, Bill found new purpose as a volunteer at Yuma Regional Medical Center driving a courtesy cart for 11 years. He was proud that he was able to provide a little comfort to the patients and their families at YRMC.

As his friends and family can attest, Bill was always ready to party. Many memorable evenings were spent laughing and celebrating in high fashion. He was the consummate host Bill always made sure he could make a drink or provide a beer that each guest would enjoy.

Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, Bill and Mary; and brothers, Norman and Robert (Bob).

Bill is survived by his wife, Colleen; his sisters, Carol Debryune and Pat Harteloo; sister-in-law, Virginia Fry; his sons, Larry, Kelly, and Craig (Rhonda); and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Yuma. Condolences may be sent to 1475 S 46th Avenue Apt 241, Yuma, AZ 85364. Please sign the guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/yumasun
