ISDRA sharing great info for off-roading fans
Facebook feed offers safety tips, condition updates and more
As much as the internet makes us crazy some days, if one takes the time to look at trusted sources, there is some terrific information to be had out there.
Case in point? The Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area’s Facebook page.
Yuma is home to many off-roaders who frequent the sand dunes, located just up Interstate 8 from Yuma County.
And as most Yumans know, going off-roading in the dunes is not for the faint of heart.
There is an element of danger in those curving dunes, and when it comes to riding, the more information and knowledge one has, the safer one can be.
On the ISDRA’S Facebook page, the agency is sharing safety tips and more.
Recently, the agency shared a post about safety gear, which is critically important when off-roading. A helmet can be the difference between life and death.
But then it also noted, “Is it always best to follow the old saying ‘When in doubt, throttle out’, or to ‘Grab another gear’? Sometimes, it might be better to ‘Go easy on the skinny pedal’ in the dunes, and live to ride another day. We all ride the dunes for the fun, challenge, and excitement; but make sure to flex the muscle between your ears, it’s your most important tool.”
And readers, we couldn’t agree more.
Safety gear is incredibly important, but it’s not the only layer of protection off-road riders need. One also has to be able to think clearly and use critical thinking skills while out riding.
But it’s not just safety tips and suggestions on the ISDRA’S social media account.
The ISDRA also shares information about off-roading conditions, especially after big rain storms, which can dramatically impact the dunes and the surrounding roads and infrastructure. .
And it shares information about upgrades to the facilities out there, such as maintenance on the restrooms out there, and where to buy dunes permits.
As our heat kicks in over the next few weeks, off-roading season here will quickly come to a close until October.
However, if you are an off-roader – or just curious about what goes on in the sand dunes – give the page a look at https://www.facebook.com/blmimperialsanddunes – and stay safe out there, readers.
