HSOY is raising funds for puppy’s treatment
Noodle is ‘super sweet’ and needs help recovering from Valley fever
The Humane Society of Yuma (HSOY) is asking the public to pitch in and help Noodle, an 11-month-old, 14-pound puppy, receive medical care.
Noodle was found near a Foothills truck stop. According to HSOY, he was malnourished, covered in ticks and “desperate for love.”
The HSOY medical team diagnosed him with tick fever, and immediately began treatment, as well as constant care with a medical foster, but noted he continued to struggle with weight loss and mild coughing.
His foster mom brought him back to HSOY for further treatment, where the agency found he had Valley fever, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes as a “fungal lung infection that can be devastating.” The infection can also spread to other parts of his body, and could cause “pain, limping, swelling and in some cases, seizures and loss of muscle control,” HSOY said.
HSOY Community Cat Coordinator Kaci Rembert is Noodle’s foster parent, and she described his mellow demeanor in a comment to the Yuma Sun.
“Noodle is super sweet. He kind of just lounges around right now because he’s sick. He plays around a little bit, but he’s not super active,” Rembert said. “He does get along well with other dogs and cats.”
However, Noodle needs ongoing treatment, including blood tests every six months.
To help fund Noodle’s medical treatment, HSOY is asking for donations. “We would be grateful for each and every donation to help this innocent pup finally live a full, pain-free life,” HSOY said in a press release.
