BY YUMA COUNTY North Frontage Road from Avenue 10E to Fortuna Road Reconstruc­tion

Yuma County will reconstruc­t North Frontage Road to a 3-lane road with curb, sidewalk and bicycle lanes from Avenue 10E to Fortuna Road. In addition, a storm drain system will be installed to direct storm water runoff to two retention basins. Constructi­on began in July 2023. North Frontage Road is expected to remain open for most of the constructi­on, although road closures will be scheduled for certain portions of the work. Vehicular traf c is now shifted to new pavement surface on North side of roadway. Contractor is placing the storm drain system from Cactus Propane to Caravan Oasis including the installati­on of several manholes and catch-basins. The concrete crew is working on placing the second driveway, the remaining 120 feet of sidewalk and ADA ramps in front of the Day-breakers restaurant. They will continue the installati­on of the storm drain concrete pipe to the east of Avenida Compadres.

No road closures scheduled for the week of 04/22/24.

LOS AMIGOS AND SOUTHERN SANDS DRAINAGE AND PAVEMENT IMPROVEMEN­TS

This project will include a new storm drain system along Avenida Compadres and valley gutters in Los Amigos. All roads in the Southern Sands & Los Amigos Subdivisio­ns will have the existing surfacing removed and new aggregate base course and new Asphaltic Concrete Pavement installed along with some miscellane­ous items. Contractor to continue work in Los Amigos, Southern Sands and Avenida Compadres. For the rst portion of the work contractor will be installing storm drain along Avenida Compadres, grading side streets at Los Amigos and completing concrete valley gutters along the side streets and concrete aprons at the Avenida Compadres intersecti­ons. They have been grading & placing aggregate base material in Los Amigos streets, they are scheduled to pave 30Th Place, 30TH Lane and 31St Place by 4/19 and 29TH Lane, Compadre Lane, 30Th Street & 31St Street the week of 4/22. Contractor will start the removal of the asphaltic concrete pavement in the Southern Sands subdivisio­n next week. They will be replacing the old aggregate base course with new aggregate base course and will be placing asphaltic concrete pavement in the next 2-1/2 weeks.

Road Closures:

Avenida Compadres is closed at the North Frontage Road intersecti­ons in order for the contractor to start the installati­on of the drain pipe system next week. Traf c is being detoured to County 10-1/2 Street and Avenue 10E.

RED CLOUD MINE ROAD

Roadway improvemen­ts begin at Martinez Lake Road and extend northeast 2.1 miles to Snipe Road. From Snipe Road a new alignment roadway was constructe­d for 1.1 miles to connect to Wildlife Way. The length of the project is 3.2 miles. Road improvemen­ts include grading, paving, drainage improvemen­ts (box culverts), and smoothing out the vertical alignment to improve safety and provide all weather access. This project is complete except for one-half mile section, which was not constructe­d in accordance with the speci cations. The Federal Highway Administra­tion (FHWA) has engaged a contractor to make the required repairs to the pavement structure. The project will also include steel plates on the cattle guards to reduce vibrations and noise. It is anticipate­d the contractor will start work in April 2, 2024. Red Cloud Mine Road has been reduced to a single lane using portable traf c signals. The contractor has completed installati­on of steel plates on the cattle guards to reduce vibrations and noise. Contractor has switched to using a pilot car during the milling operations. Milling of asphalt pavement is complete. Milling of the cement treated base is to be complete by Friday 4/19/2024. Placement of gravel base is scheduled for two weeks starting on April 22nd . Placement of asphalt pavement to follow. Constructi­on is planned to be complete by June 2024.
