12 educators in the running for Yuma County Teacher of the Year
Twelve educators are in the running to be named the Yuma County Teacher of the Year, and the winner will be announced at the 37th annual Education Foundation of Yuma County Awards Banquet on Thursday.
These finalists are broken up into four categories (primary, intermediate/special area, middle school/junior high, and high school), and they were selected out of the group of 105 total educators being recognized this year.
In addition to the overall Teacher of the Year honoree, there will also be one winner selected from each category.
Here’s the rundown on the finalists:
Primary (Pre-k to 3rd grade)
• Jessica Cantu – 3rd grade, Salida del Sol Elementary
• Katie Escamilla – 1st grade, Palmcroft Elementary
• Crystal Trueluck – 3rd grade, Ronald Reagan Elementary
Intermediate/special Area (4th to 6th grade)
• Karly Avila – 4th grade ELA, Gary A. Knox Elementary
• Brenda Findley – 4th and 5th grade Combination Class, Price Elementary
• Marsha Gomez – K–5 Autism Sped, Dorothy Hall Elementary
Middle School/junior High (6th to 8th grade)
• Felicia Ebenfelt – 7th grade science, Crane Middle School
• Michaela Hernandez – 6th–8th grade social studies & student council, Woodard Jr. High
• Roxanne Ramos – 6th– 8th grade art, Ron Watson Middle School
High School
• Hilary Brown – 11th grade English, Yuma High
• Danielle Charlot – 9th– 10th grade geometry, Yuma Catholic
• Dr. Arturo Wong – 9th– 12th grade math, San Luis High
