Contract OK’D to replace water meters in San Luis
SAN LUIS, Ariz. – A contract worth over $2.7 million was approved on Wednesday for the Water Meter Replacement Program and the implementation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
On Wednesday, the San Luis City Council unanimously approved assigning the contract to Dana Kepner Company, Inc., from Lake Havasu, to execute the program that will replace 4,700 water meters and implement the AMI system, which allows for remote reading of water usage meters and provides residents with a portal where they can monitor their water consumption, set up alerts, and learn ways to reduce their water usage.
Edgar Esparza, from Utility Billing and Collections, presented the proposal to the council and explained that it involves replacing water meters that are either nearing or have exceeded their useful life, and the contract also includes the implementation of the AMI system, which can be used with both the new meters and those that will not be replaced.
The project has been under discussion since 2018, and last year, the city administration secured grant funds from the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA) totaling $2,017,065.21, and a matching amount of $744,409.42 was allocated from the city budget to finance the program with a total cost of $2,761,474.63.
Esparza stated that among the three companies that responded to the request for proposals, Dana Kepner Company, Inc. scored the highest in the evaluation process as it was the provider that best met all the requirements of the request.
