Smucker Park and adjacent property will undergo construction for ood control measures. The park is located at 2913 S Avenue

A in Yuma, adjacent to S Avenue A between the Yuma Regional Medical Center and West 32nd Street. The project includes installation of new storm drainage and sanitary sewer systems, construction of an embankment, street improvements, and ood mitigation measures such as installing a oodgate, oodwall, over ow spillway and pump station. Project work will occur Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. for approximately one year.

Contractor poured concrete slab for culvert slab at 28th Street and will continue with preparation to install walls and deck for box culvert. Also, continue installation of 4” irrigation line from Canal to

City facility. Contractor has also expected to continue dewatering for new 36” Sanitary sewer line and commence installation of new sewer line. Floodwall inspections completed as to allow contractor to commence placing forms for oodwall footing.

North Frontage Road from Avenue 10E to Fortuna Road Reconstruction

Yuma County will reconstruct North Frontage Road to a 3-lane road with curb, sidewalk and bicycle lanes from Avenue 10E to Fortuna Road. In addition, a storm drain system will be installed to direct storm water runoff to two retention basins. Construction began in July 2023. North Frontage Road is expected to remain open for most of the construction, although road closures will be scheduled for certain portions of the work.

Vehicular traf c is now shifted to new pavement surface on North side of roadway. Contractor is placing the storm drain system from Cactus Propane to Caravan Oasis including the installation of several manholes and catch-basins. Contractor is also working on grading the East driveway and the parking area at the Day-breakers restaurant, they are scheduled to pave both areas by 05/03. After the parking area is paved, they will be placing concrete parking stops and will be striping the parking stalls.

LOS AMIGOS AND SOUTHERN SANDS DRAINAGE AND PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENTS

This project will include a new storm drain system along Avenida Compadres and valley gutters in Los Amigos. All roads in the Southern Sands & Los Amigos Subdivisions will have the existing surfacing removed and new aggregate base course and new Asphaltic Concrete Pavement installed along with some miscellaneous items.

Contractor to continue work in

Los Amigos, Southern Sands and Avenida Compadres. For the rst portion of the work contractor will be installing storm drain along Avenida Compadres, grading side streets at Los Amigos and completing concrete valley gutters along the side streets and concrete aprons at the Avenida Compadres intersections. They have been grading & placing aggregate base material in Los Amigos streets, they Paved 30th Place, 30th Lane and 31st Place last week. They are placing the concrete valley gutters & concrete aprons for 30TH Street, Compadre Lane, 29th Place and

29th Lane, they will be paving these four streets by 05/03. They are scheduled to apply base material for 31st Street, 29th Street, Compadre Place, 28th Lane & 28th Place, these streets will be paved in 2 weeks. Contractor started trenching along Avenida Compadres for the installation of the storm drain system. Contractor will start the removal of the asphaltic concrete pavement in the Southern Sands subdivision late this week. They will be replacing the old aggregate base course with new aggregate base course and will be placing asphaltic concrete pavement in the next 2 weeks.

Road Closures:

Avenida Compadres is closed at the North Frontage Road intersections in order for the contractor to start the installation of the drain pipe system next week. Traf c is being detoured to County 10-1/2 Street and Avenue 10E.

RED CLOUD MINE ROAD

Roadway improvements begin at Martinez Lake Road and extend northeast 2.1 miles to Snipe Road. From Snipe Road a new alignment roadway was constructed for 1.1 miles to connect to Wildlife Way. The length of the project is 3.2 miles. Road improvements include grading, paving, drainage improvements (box culverts), and smoothing out the vertical alignment to improve safety and provide all weather access.

This project is complete except for one-half mile section, which was not constructed in accordance with the speci cations. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has engaged a contractor to make the required repairs to the pavement structure. The project will also include steel plates on the cattle guards to reduce vibrations and noise. It is anticipated the contractor will start work in April 2, 2024.

Red Cloud Mine Road has been reduced to a single lane using portable traf c signals. The contractor has completed installation of steel plates on the cattle guards to reduce vibrations and noise. Contractor has switched to using a pilot car during the placement of the gravel base material and application of the prime coat. Milling of asphalt pavement is complete. Placement of gravel base is scheduled for this week and next week. Placement of asphalt pavement is scheduled to start on May 13, 2024 and it is scheduled to be complete by May 17, 2024. Construction is planned to be complete by middle of June 2024.
