EBRD Of­fi­cials in Uzbek­istan

At the Strat­egy Devel­op­ment Cen­ter in Tashkent, a meet­ing took place Fe­bru­ary 20 with mem­bers of a del­e­ga­tion of the Euro­pean Bank for Re­con­struc­tion and Devel­op­ment headed by the Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor of the EBRD for Cen­tral Asia and Rus­sia Natalia Khan­jenkova.

The meet­ing par­tic­i­pants dis­cussed the ac­tiv­i­ties of the cen­ter, the course of so­cio-po­lit­i­cal and so­cio-eco­nomic re­forms in Uzbek­istan. The guests were in­formed about the im­ple­men­ta­tion of the Strat­egy of Ac­tions along Five Pri­or­ity Direc­tions for the Devel­op­ment of the Re­pub­lic of Uzbek­istan in 20172021. It was stressed that a num­ber of projects are be­ing im­ple­mented jointly with in­ter­na­tional or­ga­ni­za­tions to sup­port small busi­nesses and pri­vate en­ter­prise.

Natalia Khan­jenkova highly ap­pre­ci­ated the on­go­ing re­forms in Uzbek­istan, the projects on com­pre­hen­sive devel­op­ment of the coun­try. She noted that the pol­icy pur­sued by Pres­i­dent Shavkat Mirziy­oyev, aimed at ac­cel­er­ated ad­vance­ment, con­trib­utes to the fur­ther en­hance­ment of Uzbek­istan’s stand­ing in the in­ter­na­tional com­mu­nity.

The de­ci­sions taken in the na­tion to lib­er­al­ize the econ­omy, di­ver­sify the in­dus­tries through re­duc­tion in the state’s pres­ence, bol­ster the pro­tec­tion of pri­vate prop­erty, and the pro­mo­tion of small busi­ness and pri­vate en­trepreneur­ship aroused great in­ter­est among the guests.

Dur­ing the con­ver­sa­tion, spe­cial at­ten­tion was paid to co­op­er­a­tion on such is­sues as se­cur­ing the rule of law, the cit­i­zens’ full-fledged en­gage­ment in the changes and trans­for­ma­tion tak­ing place in the so­ci­ety.
