EBRD Officials in Uzbekistan
At the Strategy Development Center in Tashkent, a meeting took place February 20 with members of a delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development headed by the Managing Director of the EBRD for Central Asia and Russia Natalia Khanjenkova.
The meeting participants discussed the activities of the center, the course of socio-political and socio-economic reforms in Uzbekistan. The guests were informed about the implementation of the Strategy of Actions along Five Priority Directions for the Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 20172021. It was stressed that a number of projects are being implemented jointly with international organizations to support small businesses and private enterprise.
Natalia Khanjenkova highly appreciated the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, the projects on comprehensive development of the country. She noted that the policy pursued by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at accelerated advancement, contributes to the further enhancement of Uzbekistan’s standing in the international community.
The decisions taken in the nation to liberalize the economy, diversify the industries through reduction in the state’s presence, bolster the protection of private property, and the promotion of small business and private entrepreneurship aroused great interest among the guests.
During the conversation, special attention was paid to cooperation on such issues as securing the rule of law, the citizens’ full-fledged engagement in the changes and transformation taking place in the society.
