Uzbekistan Today (English) - - FRONT PAGE -

During the dialogue that took place in Tashkent between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Speaker of the Great National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey Binali Yildirim, the commitment of the two countries to further strengthen the traditional relations of friendship and long-term strategic partnership was reaffirmed.

Sincerely welcoming the guest, the head of state stressed that thanks to joint efforts, the traditionally close and friendly Uzbek-Turkish relations have reached the level of strategic partnership. It was noted in particular that the fruitful top-level talks, held during the state visits last autumn to Turkey and this spring to Uzbekistan, the important documents signed during them allowed for laying a solid foundation for building up practical cooperation in various fields.

The political dialogue has been developing actively. Joint investment programs and projects are being implemented with leading Turkish companies and banks in the areas of trade, innovation, energy, infrastructure, transport, tourism, textile and food industries, and other sectors.

The growing interest by the Turkish business to work in the Uzbek market is backed by the creation of over 230 joint enterprises since the beginning of this year. The mutual trade turnover for this period grew by more than 40 percent.

Inter-parliamentary ties play an important role in the consistent development and consolidation of bilateral relations. The legislative bodies of our two countries intensively exchange delegations.

Parliamentary friendship groups are successfully operating in the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey. A memorandum and a roadmap for the development of cooperation have been approved.

Binali Yildirim expressed deep gratitude to the President of our country Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the warm welcome and conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes of the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The guest highly appreciated the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, stressing that the Turkish side is ready to render all possible assistance in implementing promising projects aimed at modernizing the national economy and social sphere.

Expert, Director of the Center for Research Initiatives “Ma’no” Bakhtiyor Ergashev:

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev made very serious and in many respects unprecedented steps when he visited Turkey last year. I consider that visit a real breakthrough both from the political and from the economic points of view, in terms of attracting investments, technologies and restoring mutual confidence. The visit was marked by the fact that, firstly, a serious political contact was established with the President of Turkey. Second, agreements were reached on billions of dollars’ worth Turkish investments in the economy of Uzbekistan. Moreover, their implementation began almost immediately... Several major investment projects with Turkish partners are already in full swing in Uzbekistan.
