Korean pi­anist set to per­form in HCM City

HCM CITY — South Korean con­duc­tor Kim Joon-cha and pi­anist Cho Eun-young will per­form in A Night of Mozart & Tchaikovsky con­cert at HCM City Opera House on Thurs­day.

Pi­anist Cho will play Piano Con­cert No 21 in C Ma­jor, K 467 com­posed by Mozart in 1785, to­gether with the HCM City Bal­let Sym­phony Orches­tra and Opera (HBSO)’s sym­phony orches­tra.

Cho be­gan study­ing piano at the age of four and won her first prize at 10.

She holds bach­e­lor and master’s de­grees and a doc­tor­ate in piano per­for­mance from the Gnessin Rus­sian Academy of Mu­sic in Moscow.

Cho has per­formed with nu­mer­ous or­ches­tras in Rus­sia and South Korea.

She is now work­ing as a lec­turer at My­ongji, Baek­soek, Se­han and Kuk­jae uni­ver­si­ties in South Korea, and serves as di­rec­tor of the E.C.M. Con­ser­va­tory.

The con­cert will also fea­ture the overture from Mozart’s opera Le Nozze di Fi­garo (The Mar­riage of Fi­garo), and Sym­phony No 5 in E Mi­nor, op 64 by Tchaikovsky.

Vi­o­lin­ist Traån Höõu Quoác will per­form as con­cert­mas­ter of the night.

Quoác was born into a tra­di­tional Hanoian fam­ily and be­gan study­ing mu­sic at the age of five with his fa­ther, renowned mu­si­cian

He earned his master’s de­gree at the Gnessin Rus­sian Academy of Mu­sic, and has per­formed across Rus­sia and Europe.

Since 2002, Quoác has worked as a teacher of mu­sic for col­leges in Seoul.

Con­duc­tor Kim has per­formed with nu­mer­ous pres­ti­gious or­ches­tras in Rus­sia, Ro­ma­nia, the US and South Korea, in­clud­ing the KBS Sym­phony Orches­tra, Ol­te­nia State Phil­har­monic Orches­tra and Ureuk Sym­phony Orches­tra.
