The Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism has chosen Quang Nam Province as the host of the National Tourism Year 2022, expecting the event will help promote tourism in the province and the country as well.

At a press briefing to announce the news last week, Doan Van Viet, deputy minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the ministry had high hope on the event which, together with the full reopening of international tourism from March 15, was expected to help the tourism industry recover this year. Quang Nam was chosen for the event, as the central province has a long history and rich culture. It is home to two UNESCO-recognized world cultural heritage sites, including the ancient town of Hoi An and My Son Towers complex, the Cu Lao Cham Biosphere Reserve, many traditional trade villages and the bai choi game, recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

During the National Tourism Year 2022, which will kick off in the ancient town of Hoi An on March 25, 192 events and activities will be organized throughout the country. Quang Nam will host 62 events and activities, expecting to welcome 4.2 million visitors, including 1.7 million international tourists, and earn VND6 trillion in tourism revenue.

In 2019 before the pandemic hit the country, Quang Nam welcomed 7.6 million tourist arrivals, including 4.6 million international travelers, and recorded revenue of VND14 trillion.

The tourism industry aims to attract 65 million tourists in 2022, including 5 million foreign travelers, earning a total revenue of over VND400 trillion.
