EXHIBITION “ROYAL TET THROUGH WOODBLOCKS OF THE NGUYEN DYNASTY”

The exhibition was held jointly by the

Hue Relics Conservati­on Centre and the National Archives Centre IV. On display are 32 documents printed from woodblocks dated from the Nguyen Dynasty, which introduced preparatio­ns and rituals for the Lunar New Year celebratio­ns. According to the woodblocks, during the Nguyen Dynasty, the Tet holiday period was set from the 28th day of the last lunar month until the 8th day of the first lunar month of the following year. In Thai Hoa palace courtyard on New Year’s Eve, 20 gunshots were fired every 15 minutes and the final 1,000th shot was fired at midnight. On the 1st morning of the new year, the king went to the queen dowager’s palace to dedicate her best wishes for the new year, then went to Thai Hoa palace to attend the ceremony of the court and gave bonus money to the mandarins...
