Hospital changes must give priority to local facilities
Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà yesterday asked the Ministry of Health to pay attention to the development of local hospitals while reorganising the ministry-managed hospitals.
Hà chaired a meeting on a comprehensive project on reorganising hospitals managed by the ministry during the 2023-30 period.
He said the project aims to invest in and build healthcare facilities that meet qualifications in order to realise the goal of improving public healthcare service quality.
Based on the existing set of criteria, the Deputy PM assigned the Ministry of Health to coordinate with localities to review and rearrange hospitals under the ministry’s management.
He recommended calling for the engagement of private hospitals with the same capacity as central hospitals to take on professional duties in order to improve healthcare service quality.
Only when public and private healthcare providers, and central and local governments work together will they create synchronised planning for the medical facility network, he said.
He assigned the Ministry of Home Affairs to study and give consultation on the hospital rearrangement plans with regard to practical requirements.
Deputy Minister of Health Đỗ Xuân Tuyên said the project aims to reduce direct management focal points.
The Ministry of Health has been asked to invest in resources and professional techniques in some specialised hospitals which do not meet the criteria of leading hospitals but belong to a number of priority specialised fields, or are located in key socio-economic regions.
By 2025, the ministry is scheduled to directly manage 30 hospitals.
It will hand over the Central Hospital 74 to Vĩnh Phúc Provincial People's Committee for management.
It will also combine Central Hospital 71 (a hospital specialising in tuberculosis and lung diseases based in Thanh Hóa Province) and Central Nursing - Rehabilitation Hospital (a hospital specialising in rehabilitation headquartered in Thanh Hóa Province) to become a practice hospital under Hanoi Medical University.
