Mpika-Kasama road set for rehabilitation - Kasama MP

-

By SIMON MUNTEMBA THE road between Mpika and Kasama which is in a deplorable state is earmarked for rehabilitation as government has engaged a construction company to work on it.

Patriotic Front (PF) Kasama member of Parliament, Kelvin Sampa told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday that government had shown commitment towards improving the road by engaging a contractor to work on it.

Mr. Sampa disclosed that government has awarded a Chinese firm to construct a road that is in a deplorable state from Mpika to Kasama, adding that soon the works would commence. The Kasama law maker said that China-Geo, a Chinese firm, that was earlier offered a contract to work on the Township roads within Kasama has also been contracted to work on the Mpika-Kasama road.

He said that as soon as they finish working on the township roads, the contractors would embark on working on the Mpika-Kasama road.

“The contract to work on the Kasama-Mpika road which is in a very deplorable state was given to China-Geo Construction Company who are doing the Kasama Township roads. Immediately they are done with the township roads, they will start working on the road from Chambeshi to Kasama,” Mr. Sampa said.

Mr. Sampa, however, explained that the road from Mpika to Kasama was shared by Northern and Muchinga Provinces and that he would only comment on the road up to Chambeshi.

He said that the other part of the road was under the Mpika MP who was in a better position to comment on what was being done to improve it.
