A SIXTY-NINE year old HIV patient of chief Simaamba’s area in Siavonga District has been arrested by Police for allegedly defiling and impregnating his 15-year-old mentally disabled granddaughter.

Both Chief Simaamba of the Tonga-speaking people and a Police source have confirmed the development to the Daily Nation in Siavonga. The minor’s details and the parents’ have been withheld.

Chief Simaamba explained that the suspect of Maamba village used to defile the girl whenever her parents were away for harvesting at the fields which are far away from the village.

“The old man used to take advantage of the absence of the girl’s parents to commit the crime. It’s sad that an elderly person with five senses can do such a heartless act on a mentally ill girl,” complained the Chief.

He further disclosed that when the traditional court of elders summoned the suspect, he refused to give the elders his side of the story but only challenged them to take him to the hospital for DNA test to prove if he was the one who impregnated the girl since he was an old man who could not make someone pregnant.

In another development a Nyamakate Tobacco farmer in Kariba Town has allegedly murdered his wife and his 15 months old baby after a dispute over the money they earned from the sale of tobacco. The farmer later attempted suicide and is currently admitted and receiving treatment under Police guard at Karoi Hospital.

Paul Mateke, who is currently in a critical condition, stabbed himself five times after he heard that Police were looking for him in connection with the murder of his wife and child.

Mateke is alleged to have murdered his wife Talent Kaswazi (23) and his child Patricia Mateke (1 year 3 months) after a lengthy domestic dispute with his wife. The recent one which resulted in the death of his wife and child was sparked when Mateke squandered money he had obtained from tobacco sales.

The couple later proceeded to Kaswazi’s homestead in a bid to seek counselling. It is reported that the three shared a room that same night before Mateke dragged his wife and child in the bush and killed them

The dead bodies were discovered 200 miters from the hut and reported to the members of the Neighborhood Watch Committee who immediately alerted police.
