By ROGERS KALERO

ESTABLISHING a formal trade centre at Kasesha border in Mbala will help to decongest the busy Tunduma border in Nakonde district,' Northern Province Permanent Secretary Jobbicks Kalumba has said.

Mr Kalumba has since engaged Tanzanian High Commissioner to Zambia, Grace Mujuma to put up the official trading at Kasesha border post.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, Mr Kalumba has said there was need for the two governments to collaborate and facilitate for the official trading at the border post so as to decongest the active Tunduma border.

"When the Tanzanian High Commissioner to Zambia Grace Mujuma paid a courtesy call on my office, I made a request to her that we collaborate as Governments and make it official that Kasesha border post in Mbala district is made an official trading centre to help decongest the busy Tunduma border post in Nakonde district,” Mr Kalumba said.

Mr Kalumba said the High Commissioner, who was on a two-day tour of the province, had welcomed the move and pledged to make a submission to her Government and would communicate back on the way forward.

Mr Kalumba said opening up the border post into a trading centre would not only decongest Tunduma, but would also create a lot of opportunities for the people in two countries to engage in formal trade

“Tunduma border post was too congested and there by compromising various economic activities hence the need to decongest it and create more space for trade.

“It’s very important that we decongest the Nakonde border post which is apparently very busy so as to create a conducive trading environment for the people, you know business becomes so difficult in decongested places,” Mr Kalumba said.
