Medical personnel at Levy Mwanawasa, UTH hospitals a let down

-

Dear Editor,

We write to condemn the attitude being exhibited by our doctors and nurses at the above hospitals.

What is the purpose of having such hospitals when medical personnel fail to attend to patients professionally and instead exhibit negative attitudes?

I suspect that one of the contributing factors is that some doctors pay much attention to private hospitals where they do part-time work leaving patients suffering in these government hospitals. Some expatriates doctors are rarely seen in these hospitals.

The government is paying millions of US Dollars to these expatriates who don’t care about the local people but interested in making extra income from private hospitals.

Can the minister take stock of these erring doctors at Levy and UTH?

It is quite sad and our minister of health should take action on these doctors and make a policy that no doctor will be allowed to do extra duties outside their respective hospitals.

The government cannot be losing millions of dollars on non performing doctors. It should also check the competence of some of these expatriate doctors in government hospitals.

Let us be serious with what is happening in our government hospitals.
