I learnt a lesson - HH

“I LEARNT a lesson not to offend anybody unnecessar­ily when I was in prison...I would like to thank the church and the people of Zambia for their support,” United Party for National Developmen­t (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema said yesterday at the Lwiindi Traditiona­l Ceremony.

Government officials were asked to stay away from the ceremony to prevent violence According to Provincial Permanent Secretary, Sibamze Simuchoba, Chief Moonze advised government to stay away.

At the ceremony, Mr Hichilema thanked Senior Chief Mukuni for being courageous enough to stand by him during his incarcerat­ion.

“The country does not need us to fight, the country does not need us to arrest each other unnecessar­ily... People of Zambia need us to live in peace and stability,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Mukuni of the Toka Leya speaking people of Kazungula district in Southern Province was the guest of honour at this year’s Lwiindi traditiona­l ceremony of the Tonga speaking people in Monze district.

Speaking during the official opening of the Lwiindi Gonde traditiona­l ceremony in Monze on Sunday, Hichilema said that Zambia do not need leaders to arrest each other unnecessar­ily.

Mr. Hichilema said that the country needs Zambians to be united and live in harmony.

He was speaking as patron of the Lwiindi Gonde traditiona­l ceremony for the Tonga speaking people in Monze on Sunday.

Chief Mukuni called on the people of Southern Province to remain united and continue to work together.

And Chief Chikanta of the Tonga speaking people of Kalomo district has invited the UPND leader to go and attend this year’s ceremony slated for next weekend.
