BEWARE OF RACISTS, MINISTER WARNED

….These are people who believe any black initiative is not good enough

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

LOCAL government minister Vincent Mwale has been advised not to pander to the whims of suspected racists who believe black initiative is not good enough, Devine Gardens’ management has vowed in a fight to maintain their business in a residential area.

According to management, attempts by a white man to block their business was suspicious because his list of alleged wrongs by the company that he submitted to the minister were all fabricated.

“These are people who believe any black initiative is not good enough. If it was his fellow white doing this business, he would not have been complaining but what he should know is that we are not intimidated by these lies he is peddling because we are law-abid- ing citizens.

We will not be intimidated by disgruntled individuals who have waged a war against our business by alleging that we are abrogating rules and regulations governing our existence because we can prove our innocence on that matter,

Commenting on a letter from Minister of Local Government Vincent Mwale warning the business entity that it risked having its change of usage from residential to commercial revoked if it continued abrogating the peace of the residents by playing loud music and dumping refuse into the nearby stream, business director Emma Kunda said those who were plotting their downfall will not succeed.

Ms. Kunda said it was hypocritical of a named white man who stayed in Kalundu to continue poking his nose into the business that was in Jesmondine when none of the mem- bers of the surrounding community had lodged a complaint with them.

She said all the concerns raised by the minister in his letter were lies peddled by the same person yet he had failed to substantiate his claims when the Lusaka City Council (LCC) had given him an opportunity to do so.

“He lied to the minister and the council that we have been dumping refuse in the nearby stream because we do not have a garbage cleaning contract with any company. We challenge whoever has an issue to come to our premises and we will show him or her the contract we signed with Clean Fast Limited in 2014 which has just been renewed this year.

“Another allegation is that we make noise in the neighbourhood and disturb the peace. For your record, we do not have live band performances at Devine Gardens and we have state of the art sound systems which conform to the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards. We use professional quality environmental level metres with a data logger which regulate sound and we can make these devices available to anyone who has issues with us,” Ms. Kunda said.

She expressed sadness at what she termed at “high level of hypocrisy” by the said named white man for agitating for the closure of their business saying it did not make any logical sense for someone who lived in Kalundu to complain about sound pollution coming from Jesmondine.

We challenge all law enforcement agencies to visit our premises and get to the bottom of the matter rather than acting on lies,” she said.
