Teachers warned against exam malpractice
KITWE District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Allan Kaoma has warned that government will not hesitate to fire teachers who engage in examination malpractice.
Mr Kaoma said the Ministry of Education was not going to spare teachers involved in exam malpractice.
Speaking during Teachers’ Day commemoration in Kitwe yesterday, Mr Kaoma said teacher’s need to protect their integrity and their profession by upholding their code of ethics.
Mr Kaoma said teachers should not engage in examination malpractice in the quest to produce good results.
“I want to sound a warning to all teachers here. Examinations come and go you need to secure your job and protect your family by staying away from examination malpractice,” he said.
And Wusakile Member of Parliament Pavuma Kalobo said government’s desire was to improve the conditions for effective teaching and learning by providing school requisites for all pupils.
Mr Kalobo said in the proposed 2018 national Budget Finance Minister Felix Mutati has allocated K11.6 billion to education and skill development to facilitate infrastructure, student loans and teachers’ recruitment.
“This demonstrates government efforts in ensuring that the education sector gets the muchdesired goals,” he said.
Meanwhile, Professional Teachers Union of Zambia President Vincent Mwitumwa says teachers with fake qualifications should be administratively interrogated to ascertain how they acquired the qualifications.
Mr Mwitumwa said the law take its course to resolve the issue of false documents.
Mr Mwitumwa said the union was not going to tolerate teachers who got involved in exam malpractice, have relationships with their pupils and conduct themselves in a manner that would put the Ministry of Education in ridicule.
“As we commemorate this day we are reminded of the challenges we face like issues of emoluments and others.
“Let me talk about the issue of professionalism and the recent development of teachers found with fake qualification as a union we want the issues to be dealt be with administratively,” he said.
