Man hit, killed by car
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI A 37-YEAR-OLD man of Chavuma yesterday died on the spot after he was hit by a speeding vehicle.
North Western Province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka said the accident happened around 19:30 hours at Chikanji area.
He identified the deceased as Alfred Chikanji of Chikanji village.
Mr Daka said the motor vehicle, a Toyota Celica registration number ABP 188, was being driven by Choolwe Hangoma, 28, of Chavuma Hospital when the accident happened.
“Due to the impact the pedestrian sustained head injuries and died on the spot,” Mr Daka said.
He said the driver failed to avoid the pedestrian because of speeding.
“The body has been deposited in Chavuma Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and the driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, a 46-year-old man identified as Chipango Kamwandi of Samuwaila village in Chief Mpidi’s chiefdom has committed suicide for unknown reasons.
Mr Daka said the incident happened yesterday around 06:00. He said Kamwandi left home for an unknown destination but only to be discovered hanging on a tree.
“However, at the time officers visited the scene they found that the body has been removed and buried,” he said.
