PLAN TO REBUILD BURNT MUFUMBWE POLICE STATION

-

By JACKSON MAPAPAYI EVERY household in Mufumbwe district will contribute K10 while every headman K50 each towards reconstruction of the burnt police station, the Chizela royal establishment has announced.

The establishment made this decision following the burning down of Mufumbwe police station by residents.

In a statement made available to the Daily Nation, royal establishment secretary Samora Kayombo said it had been resolved that such contributions be made so that people could have a sense of belonging.

And a check by the daily Nation found police officers operating from a container.

‘’Following a meeting which was held at the weekend, the royal establishment resolved that every household and village headman in the district should contribute towards the reconstruction of the police station which the people set ablaze themselves,” Mr Kayombo said. He said the move was one way of preventing people from taking the law in their hands by destroying public property.

‘’This should be a lesson so that in future, people should understand and know how to handle issues each time they are aggrieved than destroying property,” he said.

And Mr Kayombo said the chief had with immediate effect banned the practicing of Chikonde in the area.

He said the practice was primitive and retrogressive.

Meanwhile, Mr Kayombo disclosed that chief Chizela has apologised to President Edgar Lungu over the burning of the police station in that area.

He said the act was primitive, unreasonable and inhuman.
