Land secured for resource centre
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI THE Solwezi Municipal Council has released 28 hectares of land to the Ministry of Youth and Sport for the construction of a youth resource centre.
North Western Province Youth coordinator Damiano Chishimba told the Daily nation in an interview that the land the council has given to the ministry is located in Kazhiba area.
He said the construction of the resource centre was expected to start soon once funds were released by government.
He said government had embarked on the construction of youth resource centres across the country to offer livelihood skills to the youths to enable them become selfreliant and contribute positively to the social and economic development of the nation.
‘’I can confirm that we have secured land through Solwezi Municipal Council where a youth resource centre was going to be constructed, Mr Chishimba said.
He said the Solwezi youth resource centre once completed will complement the existing youth resource centres in Mufumbwe, Mwinilunga, Zambezi and Manyinga districts.
‘’And among the courses that will be offered include construction skills, information technology, tailoring and power electrical among others.” he said.
He said the response from the youths in the province has been overwhelming but that the centres are faced with a number of challenges.
‘’These include lack of boarding facilities, well equipped workshops, and inadequate infrastructure,” he added.
