Be peaceful always, Zambians advised
By SIMON MUNTEMBA THOSE that are fond of torching and destroying public places when aggrieved should learn from Zimbabwe that their grievances can be heard even through peaceful demonstrations, Political analyst Alex Ng’oma has said.
And Dr Ng’oma said Politicians should desist from imposing themselves on the people when they were not wanted.
He was commenting on the peaceful demonstrations against former President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe by Zimbabweans who demanded for his resignation.
People from across Zimbabwe had peacefully converged in Harare and Bulawayo to demand that President Mugabe step down and pave way for a new leader, which resulted into the veteran politician resigning shortly after parliament began an impeachment process against him.
Dr Ng’oma said Zambians should learn to be peaceful like Zimbabweans who peacefully took to the streets for the first time since independence in 1980 to collectively demonstrate against the veteran politician who was under house arrest.
In an interview, Dr Ng’oma said there was no need for the people to destroy properties when aggrieved adding that it was important to always remain peaceful even when aggrieved.
“As Zambians, we should learn from Zimbabwe that our grievances can be heard even through peaceful demonstrations and using the right channels. Torching and destroying public properties is not the way to go, people should always be peaceful even when aggrieved,” Dr Ng’oma said.
Dr Ngoma added that politicians should not cling on to power or force themselves when not wanted by the electorate.
He said all African leaders must learn that legitimacy and authority comes from the people themselves who elects them in to office.
Dr Ng’oma further stated that the will of the people must always be respected.
