Speed up road works Chongwe residents urge council

The council must go beyond their talk and speed up road grading works in the townships. The council has been promising the grading exercise for months without any work to boast about, a motorist, Mr. Fraser Mulonda charged.

Mr. Mulonda bemoaned the poor state of township roads which become impassable during the rain season. "We ask the council to accelerate the grading exercise.

We should not wait for the coming upgrade of roads. That project is long term, short term measures must be implemented now," he said.

Another resident, Mr. Mathews Tembo wondered why the council was taking its time to execute the promised works.

"The council has received CDF for projects from government, but we are not seeing any CDF project. They must act now before the rains destroy the roads further," he said.

A local businessman and former councillor, Mr. Oscar Kaleya told the Daily Nation that, he hoped the constituency development committee will speed up its decision making and get to the road works with urgency." The roads are in a deplorable state and must be prioritized," he said.

Mr. Kaleya however, expressed hope that the district civic and political leaders will provide the needed leadership.

"These people need to provide guidance and accelerate the road works otherwise the situation will be worse with the onset of the rains," he said.
