Lusaka business man busted over drugs
PROMINENT Lusaka businessman has been arrested with 17 blocks of compressed cannabis with a net weight of over 35kilograms, Drugs Enforcement Commission public rela-tions officer, Kamifisa Manchishi has announced.
Mr Manchishi said Joshua Mwenya Mumpansha, 42, of Roma Township was arrested yesterday for trafficking in psychotropic substances weighing 35.7 kg as well as the un-lawful use of a motor vehicle for transporting of unlawful substances.
He explained that the suspect was arrested around Emmasdale area in Lusaka after a transaction where the sale of drugs had taken place.
“The suspect was intercepted in Lusaka’s Emmasdale area after a transaction involving the contraband which is believed to be coming from Malawi in transit to South Africa,” he said.
And Mr Manchishi has disclosed that two women have been arrested for trafficking in Mirra, another psychotropic substance in a form of plant abused for its stimulant effect.
The DEC officer explained that Mercy Namukoko, 26 of Nabuluma area in Chinsali and Charity Mumba 30 pf Fimbila compound in Kapiri Mposhi were arrested with trafficking in 126 bundles of Mirra being 41.98 kgs on their way to Ndola.
“The duo was arrested at a Police checkpoint in Mpika on a bus heading to Ndola,” he said.
DEC has since warned members of the public from getting involved in illegal vices as well as the abuse of psychotropic substances which was against the law.
All the suspects were in police custody and should be appearing in court soon.
