-

By ANNIE ZULU HEALTH Minister Chitalu Chilufya says Government will procure additional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines for the University Teaching Hospital (UTH). Dr Chilufya said Government intends to procure two additional MRI machines for UTH. The minister was responding to Nangoma Member of Parliament Boyd Hamusonde who wanted to know whether Government had any plans to procure additional MRI machines for UTH during the question for oral answer time in Parliament. “Government has plans to procure additional magnetic resonance imaging machines for UTH and In order to improve clinical outcomes in disease management, Government intends to procure two additional MRI machines. “One for women and new born babies,” University Teaching Hospital and the other one for the Children’s University Teaching Hospital,” Dr Chitalu said. The Minister also said Government had embarked on a modernisation programme to re-equip all provincial hospitals in a phased manner. “Not too long ago, we didn’t have any MRI machine even at UTH, so we started with UTH which is the tertiary institution. In a phased manner we will position these MRI machines in all the provincial hospitals and this will depend on the availability of resources. “So as part of our modernisation programme, we are moving to all provincial hospitals to re-equip and MRI is one of the machines that we intend to put all the provincial hospitals,” he said.
