Human resource key to development

- By KETRA KALUNGA

HUMAN resource in health is key to national development, and the attainment of the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP) goals, says Central Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kabwe.

Mr Kabwe said Government was committed to developing nursing training institutions to maximize on their potential to produce high quality health workers who would play a key role in the provision of health care services in the country.

Mr Kabwe said this when he visited Chitambo School of Nursing to check on the progress of the construction works for the hostels which had stalled.

Mr Kabwe commended management at the institution for increasing enrollment from the initial 27 in 2012 to 60 in 2016 despite the challenges faced including inadequate accommodation.

He has since called for continued commitment towards ensuring the training school performs better in 2018 by safeguarding and sustaining what has been achieved.

Speaking earlier, Chitambo Nursing School Principal Tutor, Jonathan Kasoka expressed gratitude at the support the school was receiving from the government.

Mr Kasoka assured the Permanent Secretary that the institution would perform even better which he said was achievable with support from government through the provincial health office.

And Central Province Health Director Dr Rosemary Mwanza expressed happiness at the continued engagement and support received from the provincial administration.

Dr Mwanza however expressed disappointment at the delay by the contractor, Divine Link to complete the works at the school as it was earmarked to house new students in 2018.

Dr Mwanza has also called on the Permanent Secretary to check on other contractors that are delaying to complete the works in her ministry as it was critical for the nation to realise the desired development. And when queried over the delays, Divine Link Contractors Limited Site Engineer Augustine Mwaba attributed the delay to many variations in works but assured that the works at the school was to be completed in two weeks time in readiness for official handover to the Ministry.
