UPND members in secret indaba to oust HH?

- By CHITE MTONGA

UPND membership have finally come to terms with the fact that Hakainde Hichilema (HH) could never be president and are now holding clandestine meetings to change the top leadership of the party, Zambia Republican Party president Wright Musoma has said.

Mr Musoma said some individuals within the UPND were planning on fielding another candidate for the 2021 election as there were concerns that Mr Hichilema would never be president.

And Mr Musoma has maintained that the UPND leader should be ashamed for challenging President Lungu to hold early elections to test his popularity against him, when he has no idea of his own popularity just within the UPND.

He said Mr Hichilema had lost popularity among members who thought that the party would only stand a chance if they changed the presidential candidate the party would field in 2021.

Mr Musoma said the party under Mr Hichilema had never gone for a single convention to examine who currently had a larger following in the party.

He said that it was surprising that Mr Hichilema and his close allies had continued to talk about elections when the party had not yet gone for a convention.

Mr Musoma said the current utterances by the UPND on the 2021 elections were confirmation that Mr Hichilema would still be the sole candidate despite some members within the party thinking otherwise.

He said that the UPND should avoid causing confusion in the country just because there was mayhem in their party.

Mr Musoma said it was unreasonable for the UPND to ask for early elections when they did not even have a party president that could win the 2021 election.
