Lungu targets Dundumwezi
CHIEF Chikanta of the Tonga people of Kalomo has extolled President Edgar Lungu for delivering some infrastructure projects people requested when he toured Dundumwezi constituency in July this year.
And Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya who went to Dundumwezi as President Lungu's envoy at the weekend said government would soon construct a modern hospital and mothers' shelter in Dundumwezi.
According to a press statement issued by Ministry of Health head of communication and external relations Stanslous Ngosa, Dr Chilufya said government will release the initial K2.8 million to begin the first phase of the project soon.
The people, through Chief Chikanta wanted President Lungu to ensure that communication towers were set up to improve the network, upgrade the Habulile Health Centre into a mini modern hospital, connecting the Dundumwezi to the national grid and rehabilitate the road network.
This came to light on Sunday when Dr Chilufya went to Dundumwezi as President Lungu’s envoy to translate into action the policy pronouncement he made when he visited the constituency on July 11 this year.
Chief Chikanta said his people were happy that President Lungu’s recent visit to Dundumwezi was bearing fruits.
He said his people were happy that President Lungu meant business and not rhetoric as exhibited by some selfish leaders.
The traditional leader further said he was happy that some challenges he wanted to be addressed 22 years ago when he became chief were being sorted out by President Lungu.
Meanwhile, Dr Chilufya disclosed that so far, setting up of the communication towers has advanced adding that they will be commissioned next month.
Speaking during the meeting with Chief Chikanta and Senior Headmen, Dr Chilufya said government will soon construct a modern hospital in the area.
The minister further directed that hospital linen, solar panels, a new ambulance, and the drilling of a borehole and erecting a water tank to improve the water reticulation system should be delivered within two weeks.
He disclosed that the construction of health centres in Kandanzuvo, Kalucha and Nameto areas will start in January 2018.
Dr Chilufya also directed the completion of final touches at the newly constructed Kalomo District Hospital within two weeks so that the facility could be opened to the public.
He said the construction of the eighthealth posts under the 650 health post project will resume next month because the financing had been rectified.
Dr Chilufya, however, appealed to the traditional leaders to promote family units and inculcate good morals that help prevent the young generation from contracting HIV.
