Zambia a beacon of peace
ZAMBIA is a true beacon of peace in Africa, says Zambia DNA spokesperson Spuki Mulemwa.
Mr Mulemwa said it was no wonder that even civil society organisations could freely comment on issues to do with governance.
Commenting on United States President Donald Trump’s remarks that Zambia was a model of democracy in Africa, Mr Mulemwa said Zambia truly upheld the tenets of democracy and respected human rights.
“The comment US president Trump made has vindicated what we Zambians have always believed in and protected and that is the fact that we are a truly democratic state,” he said.
He said Zambia was internationally acclaimed for being a beacon of peace and was respected for adhering to democracy.
Mr Mulemwa further said that some politicians appeared on international media telling lies about the current governance of the country yet no one had been arrested because government respected human rights.
He said that opposition political parties had failed to convince the international community that Zambia was a dictatorship as the country had remained a democratic state that was recognized internationally.
Mr Mulemwa said Zambian politicians must avoid engineering situations that were false just to get to State House, because once the reputation of the country was dented all Zambians would be affected.
“We should all put the country first and avoid tarnishing its image, that is what true patriotism is about, if you love your country, you must protect its interest, unlike what some civil society organisations and opposition political parties are doing, it is unfortunate,” Mr Mulemwa said.
