Water trust appeals for Chlorine

CHIBOLYA Water Trust has called on the government to supply them with chlorine to fulfil the directive to supply free water to the community aimed at combating cholera, says team manager Jonas Chishimba.

Mr Chishimba said Chibolya Water Trust has been supplying free water to residents of Chibolya since October 28, 2017 through their borehole and a network of water kiosks which he said was in line with a government directive aimed to combat cholera and other waterborne diseases.

He said the initiative was similar to Kanyama Water Trust where water was also supplied to members of the community at no cost to the residents.

In an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr Chishimba said the initiative faced challenges such as lack of chlorine and urged the government to supply them with the commodity.

He said residents of Chibolya had been drawing water for free but that the project faced challenges with their borehole pump and power outages which required them to buy diesel.

‘‘As Chibolya Water Trust we have been supplying free water to residents since October 28, 2017 this is in line with a government directive aimed to fight cholera and other waterborne diseases

The challenges we are faced with include power outages which require us to buy diesel and we call on the government to supply us with chlorine,’’ he said.

Mr Chishimba said the initiative had challenges with funds and that it had sent a bill of quantities to the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) of the services they were offering to the community.
