MP named in Munali land wrangle

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

WE will not take kindly to manoeuvres by a named MP who wants to grab land that was legally given to Zambians in Munali’s Tunduya area, the Evangelical Youth Alliance (EYA) has warned.

EYA executive director Moses Lungu said his organisation was aware about the MP frequenting the Ministry of Lands to facilitate for the cancellation of 70 titles given to ordinary Zambians so that the land could be given to Asian businessmen

Reverend Lungu said the MP wanted the titles revoked so that the same piece of land can be given to Asian businessmen to put up a showroom after allegedly receiving kickbacks from them.

But Rev Lungu has warned that he will embarrass the MP if such machinations continued.

Rev. Lungu said it did not make any sense for the said MP to be meddling in land allocation when that was not their role.

He said parliamentarians had a mammoth task of reading the country’s statutes as lawmakers so that they come up with laws that would foster national development.

He said if the Tunduya land wrangle continued, EYA would be left with no option but to petition President Lungu to intervene. He said the people owning plots in Tunduya were given the plots by the council and that their titles were legally issued by the Ministry of Lands and wondered what was illegal about the whole process but vowed to fight for the poor Zambians, saying all wellmeaning citizens must rise up and stop the rot perpetrated by some disgruntled individuals.

“This MP is in for a rude shock and a serious embarrassment if this behaviour does not stop. We cannot have a situation were land legally owned by poor Zambians must be taken away from them in unclear circumstances and given to foreigners. The most disgusting thing is that the same people who were begging for votes from the same people not long ago are the ones creating this mess,” Rev. Lungu complained. He said no one must blame him or politicise his involvement in the matter if he took the case personally as he was protecting the Zambians’ inheritance.
