Kambwili will be jailed, says Tayali

- By SIMON MUNTEMBA

CHISHIMBA Kambwili is being hypocritical by claiming that his fraud case was political victimisation propagated by State House because there is overwhelming evidence that he committed crimes and he will be jailed for that, Chilufya Tayali has alleged.

In an interview in Lusaka, Mr Tayali, the Economic and Equity Party (EEP) leader, alleged that Mr Kambwili committed crimes adding that he (Kambwili) will be jailed.

“His fraud case has nothing to do with State House, it is purely an issue of fraud, and based on overwhelming evidence against him that I have, I am convinced that Mr Kambwili committed crimes. He committed crimes and he will be jailed, there is no way he will run away from being jailed no matter how he tries to politicize this issue,” Mr Tayali said.

Mr Tayali was reacting to Mr Kambwili’s claims that his fraud allegations were orchestrated by State House.

Mr Kambwili, who is PF Roan Member of Parliament was last week warned and cautioned on three counts of fraud, uttering of false documents and giving false information to a public officer.

Mr Kambwili was reported to Police by Mr Tayali for allegedly registering a company fraudulently using ghost names to obtain government contracts while in government as a minister.

After being warned and cautioned, Mr Kambwili told journalists that State House was behind his summoning for fraud using Mr Tayali.

But the EEP leader said he reported Mr Kambwili to the police because h adding that he (Kambwili) should not try to hoodwink the Zambians that he was politically victimised.

“That is a weak defence that Mr Kambwili want to hoodwink the Zambian to think that he didn’t commit a crime, but he will be convicted based on the evidence that I presented to police, and I want to urge PF to stay away from this case because people may think that it was politically motivated,” he said.

Mr Tayali said it was unfortunately that Mr Kambwili was accusing State House of being behind his fraud cases when it was the same state house that has been protecting him all along.

He wondered why the police were taking long to arrest Mr Kambwili when he availed them with sufficient evidence to back the allegations against the former Information minister.
